Getting ready photos are typically the ones you want some of but aren’t top priority on your list of MUST have Shots. That said some of the most honest candid of uncontrollable laughs, and joyful tears are captured leading up to the day’s main events. As a wedding photographer I love this time because guards are down, nerves are low and everyone seems relaxed— which makes for the most authentic candids! To keep those real, pure, moments looking light and airy, in line with the rest of your wedding photography, I have 3 recommendations for you to consider when getting ready.
Three Tips For The Perfect Getting Ready Photos
- One big window – Try to pick a location with at least one BIG window that lets in a bunch of natural light. It casts the perfect amount light for the camera to capture crisp, clear details, while being soft enough to keep things from getting blown out.
- Cleared, cleaned section of the room or a separate room from hair and makeup) – It’s probably easier just to select a separate room for hair and make up photos, that way everyone can spread out their stuff without having to worry about if it will be in the background of your pictures. You also won’t have to spend extra time moving everything once the photographer shows up. The other option, if you don’t have two rooms available, is to just keep the section by the window picked up and clear of any clutter. This will help your photographer achieve those dreamy, bright and clean looking shots.
- Fun music to get you ready for the day – Music is a powerful thing! It can change your emotions and thinking in seconds, take you back to favorite memories or help you remember the moment you’re in currently. I love when bridal parties have their girls night out, 90s, celebration playlist going- signing, dancing, reminiscing and celebrating their friend’s wedding day! Not to mention I get to can capture all the jokes, dance movies and “remember when…”s which makes for great photographic story telling!
I hope these three things help or at least give you something to consider when planning where you will get ready for your big day!
